Itchy Scratchy Clothes

Itchy Scratchy Clothes

Does your kid sometimes make you late for school because they can’t settle on what to wear? For some parents, this may only happen once their kids are in their preteen and teen years. For us, it was an early childhood milestone for various different reasons.

When Mini Me was 2, she went through a stage when every outfit had to be yellow. Do you know how hard it was to find toddler clothing that was yellow at that time? We did a lot of laundry and collected a lot of yellow clothing, and Little Lion inherited a lot of yellow clothing too.

For many kids that I see as patients, clothing decisions can depend on how itchy or how soft a textile is. If there are sleeves. If there are tags. If it’s a favorite dress, shirt, hat. Little Lion went through a stage when we had to buy seamless socks because fiddling with the exact right fit prior to school was ROUGH.

I came upon a video of me reading the board book version of Too Purpley by Jean Reidy and illustrated by Genevieve Leloup and realized that I really need to talk about this topic. How do you handle these moments? Do you cushion your morning with extra time? We tried to, we also tried to be flexible. I know Little Lion had many days in grade school with cowboy boots and robes or capes on.

I don’t regret it one bit.

Side note: I first posted about Too Purpley because I found it behind our entertainment center and it was FIVE years overdue. ;D
