Kat Writes a Song
In Kat Writes a Song by Greg Foley, Kat works hard to create a song, and then she second-guesses herself. We've all been there. Thinking we're creating something fantastic, especially as a writer, and then we start to let the doubts creep in. What I admire about Foley's story is that he shows Kat persevering through the creative process, and then sharing her joy.
What's more, the story goes on to show that you never know whose life you'll touch. I just love that message, especially in the light of the recent loss of a phenomenal doctor who was one of my attendings (teachers) when I was in residency. He made a HUGE difference in so many people's lives, and his legacy lives on.
Foley has written a book that is close to my heart, and not just because Little Lion is obsessed with cats right now, but also because I happen to love the name "Kat" and I love that he named the cat in this picture book with a "K" instead of a "C".
Kat Writes a Song also includes the music and lyrics to Kat's creation, "Amazing Song to Make Things Better" on its end pages. The book releases on May 1st. However, Greg Foley is scheduled to be at the L.A. Times Festival of Books this Saturday in the Once Upon a Time bookstore tent. So if you want to get a copy AND get it signed, that's the place to go! (And you'll be supporting one of my favorite independent book stores in the process.)
By the way, Little Lion is obsessed with cats not because they are fellow felines, but because she has been reading every Warriors book that she can get her hands on. (Thank you, Erin Hunter.) So Little Lion's plush cat, Petrol Cloud is pictured above with Greg Foley's Kat Writes a Song and Mr. Bookworms drums (they are on a cajon, and you can see another hand drum on the side).
Please note that I was sent an ARC copy of Kat Writes a Song by Greg Foley for an honest review. I just happened to love it. :D
Tell Dr. Bookworm!
Is there a certain animal that you can't resist when you see it in picture books or chapter books? I'm kind of a fan of all the Yeti books out there. And hedgehogs. And imaginary friends (animal or otherwise).
