Mini Me and discovered The Laurie Berkner Band when the band was featured on Jack’s Big Music Show on Nick Jr and Noggin. Her fun and catchy songs were so loved in our house that we had to buy ALL of her albums.

Bookworm Family Activities

On first read, Hibernate With Me, written by Benjamin Sheuer and illustrated by Jemima Williams, is a lullaby for convincing your child to go to bed. On further re-reads, I’m enamored with the constant refrain that this mommy or daddy bear will always, always, ALWAYS be there for their baby bear.
Monster Boogie
Monster Boogie as its re-incarnation of a picture book is such a pleasure to sing. Yes, sing. I couldn't help but sing the book the first time I read it to Little Lion because I know this song too well. And I'm a bit tone deaf.
The Theater
There was some point in my life when I couldn't stand musicals, didn't understand why the actors would burst out into song, seemingly out of nowhere.
Much like my eventual love of Shakespeare though I had been skeptical (and I saw ALL the RSC Shakespeare production shows the summer of 1994), I grew back to love musical theater.
Kat Writes a Song
In Kat Writes a Song by Greg Foley, Kat works hard to create a song, and then she second-guesses herself. We've all been there. Thinking we're creating something fantastic, especially as a writer, and then we start to let the doubts creep in. What I admire about Foley's story is that he shows Kat persevering through the creative process, and then sharing her joy.
Music to Boogie To
Laurie Berkner (along with the Laurie Berkner Band!) has a knack for creating music that is age-appropriate, catchy, and fun to sing along and dance to. Yes, even for adults.
