Doctor Bookworm turns THREE!

Doctor Bookworm turns THREE!

Of course, I am older than three, but this blog, Doctor Bookworm, is officially three years old this month!

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started this blog, but it has been a wonderful journey. I enjoy reading (obviously) and I enjoy sharing my love of books, and I love to write, so this blog was a natural segue way for me. Though sometimes it makes me ignore my other writing too.

What have we done in three years? We’ve grown exponentially! There are a lot of visitors and readers following along, especially on the First Pages series posts and our Read-alongs, even if they are reading along months later.

What else have we done? Well, working on this blog has also helped me work on the craft of writing—studying what makes a picture book good, what makes for a successful (and enticing) start to a novel. But it’s also helped me reflect on myself as a mom, as a pediatrician, and on my journey to get to both of those places. For people in medicine, especially, I think we are so busy working on our goals (and studying, studying, studying) that we don’t often reflect on the pathway to becoming a doctor. There are many things that I would ‘take back’ in the way I looked at the world or a patient and a patient family, but I’m not sure I would be the doctor I am today without those experiences. So when I’m judging my past self (or the past attendings and residents I’ve worked with), I remind myself that I’m not the same person I was back then. And neither are they. And we can only hope that we’ve grown and become better physicians and persons in the process.

Thank you for following along my journey the past three years. I hope you’ve found some good reads along the way.

I love hearing your thoughts—what books would you like me to review? Any suggestions for our next read-along?

Giveaway Time!

As a thank you to our bookworm community, I’m hosting another GIVEAWAY!

I know my giveaways aren’t HUGE but that means your chances of winning are better. :D

To enter: Let me know in the comments below one of your favorite books among the ones that we’ve reviewed. If you’d rather let me know via email, you can contact me here.

Prizes: If you are one of our three winners, you may choose from any book that we have reviewed or mentioned on the blog thus far (as long as it is still in print or reasonably available). Or you may choose either a book-related tote, pin, socks or pouch from Out of Print (less than $20 value, limited to what they have in stock). Out of Print is not affiliated with this giveaway or blog—I just like their bookish stuff.

Contest rules: ends on September 10, 2019 1159pm PST . You must be a resident of the U.S. to enter. You must be at least 18 years old to enter, or have the permission of a parent or guardian. Not affiliated with Instagram or Out Of Print or anyone else. Three individual winners will be chosen at random.
