10 YEARS OF BLOGGING
It’s more or less the 10 year anniversary of the Dr. Bookworm blog. I started this blog in 2016 right as I started in private practice at Surf City Peds, a transition from being a per diem part time pediatrician at CHOC Childrens.
I love reading. I love writing. I love talking about books with kids and adults alike. It seemed like a logical transition to book blogging.
Except, social media took off. Book bloggers became Bookstagrammers so I joined Instagram at that time too. Then Bookstagrammers became like TikTokers and everything went to video with Reels.
I still prefer the written word, but I wanted to talk about books. For the first four years, I posted 2-3 times a week, until the pandemic hit and the world shut down and my anxiety increased. Instead of blogging, I was reading non-stop about the overwhelmed hospitals (and morgues)—yes they were overwhelmed because people were very sick and people were dying. (We can’t and shouldn’t erase history.)
And, like most people, my focus was on keeping myself and my family safe in an unprecedented experience that took its toll mentally on all of us. So the blog became scattered and I kept trying to get back to posting regularly but it’s been off and on for years.
I feel like I’m finally back on the blogging bandwagon, much intertwined with all the fun of working on buidling our Bookdragon bookstore.

Writing! I love writing and creating. Whether I’m working on my own stories and novels, whether I’m writing for the blog, or sewing or crafting, I just like to be creating something.
I’m posing with Tahereh Mafi’s A Very Large Expanse of Sea because I was talking about the picture books about 9/11 and then it made me think of this wonderful YA novel that takes place in the aftermath of 9/11 and doesn’t hold back about the racism that occurred (and continues to this day). You can read my read-along thoughts about AVLEOS here and here, but warning that there are many spoilers as well as my own experience on 9/11.
