Special Delivery Stories
Recently one of my friends posted about Special Delivery on Instagram after we donated books to her organization, the Ruthie Lou Foundation. Amie and I are bereaved mother friends, meaning we met through this wonderful and supportive community, whose unfortunate common bond is that we have all lost babies too soon. Her post got re-posted and we got a slew of orders last week.
Every request for Special Delivery book comes with a request for parents to share their story, if they want to share. My sisters and I read each and every one.
I’ll admit that it is sometimes hard to read about your babies because I know exactly what you’re going through. I admit that I STILL read about them anyway because I want to hear your voice and I want to know about your baby.
We watched the film version of Hamilton last night. (Of course we did because Hamilton. Because original Broadway cast. Because, we knew it would be amazing.) And, just like always, I’m always a bit stiff when <SPOILER ALERT> Philip dies. It hits me hard EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. And then Angelica sings “It’s Quiet Uptown” which is a look into Alexander and Eliza mourning their son. And I don’t have to imagine what that grief feels like, what it looks like, why a couple might grieve together or apart. I’ve lived it.
I’ve written before about how that song hits close to home. Because I see you on the outside and I see you on the inside, and I’ve walked where you are now.
So, for our many new recipients of our free Special Delivery book, thank you. Thank you for reaching out and sharing your story. And thank you for helping my little Macy Button’s legacy live on too.
Many hugs.
