With Her Nose Stuck in a Book
Happy World Read-Aloud Day! This day happens to fall on my DisneyBounding Wednesday and I just happened to channel Belle today. How’s that for Bookworm prescience?
Do you think Belle would prefer Jane Austen’s Persuasion or Sandra Cisneros’ The House on Mango Street or Zora Neale Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God or Tim Powers’ The Anubis Gates? The answer is YES. She would read all of them because she’s a bookworm and an equal opportunity reader. Just like me—I read almost all genres and these four books are some of my faves.
In honor of World Read-Aloud Day, I’ll be reading Eva Eland’s Where Happiness Begins if my video link works. Where Happiness Begins is a companion book to Eland’s When Sadness is at Your Door. Both books are great conversation starters for the myriad of emotions that your child may be going through, especially during the restrictions of this pandemic.
By the way, February 3 is Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell’s birthday. She was the first female physician trained in the U.S. To honor Dr. Blackwell, February 3 is also known as National Women Physicians Day. Today, I thank the women physicians whose shoulders I have stood on, most especially my mom.
