What are the things I carry? It’s an amalgam of treasured childhood moments, intimidating med school and residency moments, and an awful lot of both regrets and happiness that involve each of my kids, including, of course, my Macy though she passed away.
Every New Year’s Day, my Lola (grandma) would hold a raffle.
When I was little, my mom would get a few new Hallmark ornaments every year. Our ornaments were handmade school projects and a mish-mash of gathered ornaments from years past, and I loved our tree very much.
I have a hard time letting things go. In my heart.
So it may come as no surprise to you that I’m still mourning Little Lion’s wand.
Mini Me was a precocious two-year old, and she pulled me and my husband through the muddy, tangled, dredgy waters that is the thing we call GRIEF.
I’ve had many thoughts about re-learning things alongside my children.
Ah, this is when I’ll relearn about the American Revolution. (I didn’t. Though I learned more than I did the first time around.)
This is when I’ll learn all the state capitols. (I did, mostly.)
This is when I’ll learn about ancient civilizations or re-learn about the missions. (Nope.)

I believe in love at first sight. We all fell in love with her, instantly.
Sometimes we tend to over schedule our kids’ days. And sometimes I’m guilty of under scheduling. But like a wise parent said to me a few weeks ago in the office: our kids need to be bored. It’s summer.
How often do I talk about SADNESS with my patients? Every day.
I woke up this morning realizing that it’s been almost 20 years since I was accepted to med school off the wait list. I like to call it my last minute decision to go to med school but it was anything but last minute.
